Georg Jørgensen Ringereide was the photographer of all of these pictures, except of course the one's which he is in.  He continued throughout his life to enjoy photography.  From the census of 1900 we find that he was born 16th of September that year and that he lived in Bergen (Fredriksberg no. 23, at Nordnes near the harbour, whole 3rd floor, 2 rooms and kitchen) together with his father Mons Olai Jørgensen Ringereide, (born 1863 at Ringereide, Lavik, Sogn), his mother Thrine Abrahamsdatter Waage Ringereide (born 1867) and grandmother (Maren Waage, born 1842) from Askvold in Sogn og fjordane county. He had a sister, Agnes Jørgensdatter Ringereide (born 1897), who died in childhood.

From the census of 1910 we find Mons Ringereide born Sept 4, 1863, (working at "Dampskibsekspedisjon"), married to Thine born Apr 17, 1866, and sons Georg born Sept 16, 1900, Alf born Mars 4, 1907, and Rolf born Aug 31, 1908. All living at Sparresgate 1, Bergen.

From the census of 1917 we find Mons and family, all living at Sigvald Natlands House, Vognstølen (up on the hill).
From the census of 1922 we find Mons and family, then living at Haukenesvei 48c. Georg is absent on Military Service. Alf  and Rolf are school boys.
Georg (unmarried, technitian/designer searching for job), left Bergen on Oct 6, 1923, for Amk Miles City, Mont., on the Norwegian American Line.

Alv Jørgensen Ringereide was married Dec 23, 1923, in Oslo  (Matteus church) to Alfhilde Louise Lunde born Feb 7, 1899 in Oslo, died 1942.
They lived then at Raskkersgate 7 in Oslo. He died Jan 5, 1968, in Copenhagen (Rikshospitalet). He lived in Denmark the last part of his life.
        Both Alv and Alfhilde were famous Expressionist painters.

Rolf Alman was mar. Sept 7, 1929, in Bergen (St. Jakob church) to Tyra Matilde Ellingsen born 1907. Rolf died in Bergen Aug 7, 1978.

George Jorgensen Ringereide arrived in the United States of America (USA), Ellis Island, New York, October 15, 1923, at 22 years of age.  He traveled from Bergen on the ship "Bergensfjord".  His father's address in Norway at the time of his departure was Strandgaten 28, Nordnes, Bergen.  He listed his cousin, Mons Ringereide in the town of Crow Rock, Montana, as the person he would live with in the USA.
George talked about Norway all the time.  He played the old Norwegian songs on the violin by ear.  One of the things he told us was that the name Ringereide translated as the musical sound that is made when the wind in the Fjord blows gently on the blue bells that grow in the Spring. He brought with him a Hardanger fiddle to America. He always talked about this “violin” being a special type having two layers of strings. The violin was stolen when he first arrived in NYC and he never played a Hardanger fiddle again. George always had the best sense of humor, enjoyed life immensely and was well liked by all who knew him.  He kept the feeling of Bergen with him always and shared it with all of those around him.

The people here are mentioned by first name and are in the same picture as the gentleman in the wainscot (vest).

A picture of Mons Olai Jørgensen Ringereide taken at the gravesite in Bergen of his wife, Thrine Abrahamsdatter (Waage) Ringereide.  In this picture Mons Olai Jørgensen Ringereide bears a strong family resemblance to his cousin Mons Anderssen Ringereide. (See photo of him).

Remarks: People from Bergen are special. It is a good chance they will meet you with: "Eg e'kje fra Norge, eg e fra Bergen!" (I'm not from Norway, I'm from Bergen!). They are more lively and humourous than a typical reserved Norwegian, talking all the time with a joyful kind of jokes and a dialect easy to recognize.
